For LISTE Art Fair Basel 2021, Tabula Rasa Gallery is pleased to introduce a series of works by two female Chinese artists Xiao Hanqiu and Zhang Meng. Both heavily influenced by language and literature, Xiao and Zhang’s recent works mix loneliness and inner strength, which are common attributes of female artists, but their emotional force is amplified by our shared experience of social isolation in the coronavirus global pandemic.

Xiao Hanqiu (b.1986) and Zhang Meng (b.1983) both are born in China and educated in Europe. Xiao went to study in the UK at the age of 15, and returned to Beijing after completion her MFA at Chelsea College of Art in London. She is now a professional painter and published poet. Zhang finished her bachelor degree in linguistics in China before studying art at the Academy of Fine Art Karlsruhe Germany. She is now an artist in Karlsruhe.
